I just spent 50k on a constant effect restore fatigue ring, with 40k left over - I know how much it costs. I suppose if your intelligence was high enough, you could cast some spells that you simply couldn't using an enchanted item since it would cost too much charge, but otherwise I don't really see the point of using magic at all except for perhaps the early stages of the game, which don't really last long. The higher you raise your enchanting skill, the less charge it costs to use an enchanted item as well. I suppose the cost of this is swapping around rings or other items if you have some perma-buff enchants, however. The problem with this is, by that time you have so much gold you can enchant literally anything you want, so I almost always tend to just enchant things with powerful spells since they can't fail and don't cost mana, and also insta-cast instead of using an animation. So, in order to cast the most powerful spells, you will be a pretty high level by the time you can use them - which makes sense. So I've been playing the game since it came out in 2003, first on Xbox, then PC and now Steam, and I realised a long time ago that actually casting magic is kind of useless.
